page 394 of the 2002 Motovan
Catalog you can see the turn signals I bought. The included bulbs were cheap
and not very bright. Instead I came up with the idea of using a bulb from your
average, "in the house" track lighting system. These bulbs can be
found in many different sizes and wattage and they're made to work with a 12V
system. The ballast that comes with the track lighting system is a 120V AC to
12V DC converter.
The bulb shown on the right is a 50 Watt. Actually I used a 35 Watt bulb. Notice the price? $1.00 If you were to buy the same bulb in a motorcycle specialty shop, you'd probably spend $15.00 or more.
To fasten the lights to my Virago, I had to use some washers. The holes left behind by the original equipment were too big to mount my Arlen Ness lights. The washers were used to shore everything up. The bolt that comes with the lights is hollow to allow the wiring to pass through to the inside of the housing. I had removed all of the electrical connections inside these new lights, because I wasn't going to be using them. Instead I soldered some small connectors on the ends of the wires. These connectors just slide right on to the leads of the halogen lights.
In order to mount the halogen lights inside the Arlen Ness housings, you'l have to glue the halogen bulb right on to the lens. This was accomplished using ordinary Silicon Sealant. Silicon is the best stuff to use because it peels right off, if you need to change the bulb.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. In the mean time, have a look at these pictures to see how everything was done.

Notice the washer?
Do you see the silicon glue? Also note the use of the heat shrink tubing. It's really great stuff. It makes for a professional looking connection and is much cleaner than ordinary Black Electrical Tape.
